Callaghan Valley Huckleberry Festival
Posted: Wednesday, September 12, 2012
The Callaghan Valley is proud to
present the Huckleberry Festival. The idea behind the festival is
to expose visiting tourists to the magnificent Callaghan
Valley.
The Callaghan Valley is located 25 minutes outside of the Whistler Village. The area was used extensively for many of the sporting events during the Winter Olympics including cross country skiing and ski jumping. The area is very private and untouched by major development. The beautiful surrounding area is a great place to explore hiking and sightseeing.
The Festival is set to take place this Sunday, September 16 at the Callaghan Lodge. The event begins at 9AM and runs until 4PM. The day will feature a series of FREE activities including, breakfast, yoga seminars, children's activities, organized hikes, pie making contest, live music and of course berry picking.
The day will also host a seminar from local
bear researcher Michael Allen. Mr. Allen will talk about
the local bear species in the area and answer questions about the
local animal life found in the Callaghan.
If you're looking to explore the area the boys from Copper Cayuse Outfitters will be on hand offering horseback tours. These local cowboys have an intimate knowledge of the area and are the perfect guides to lead you through the area.
For those who have never visited the Callaghan before it is located 25 minutes outside of Whistler. The turnoff for the Callaghan is 10 minutes outside of Function Junction driving towards Squamish or Vancouver. Once you reach the turnoff the paved road turns into a dirt road so be prepared to slow down. The Callaghan Lodge host of this year's event is about 15 minutes down the turnoff and can't be missed signs will direct you along the way. If you are unsure of how to get there ask the friendly staff at Adara Hotel simply Google map the Callaghan Lodge.
If you're in town this weekend make sure to make it out to the beautiful Callaghan Valley for the Huckleberry Festival. Entry to the event is FREE and allows you to explore the magnificent scenery the Callaghan is known for.
