Try Skydiving in Whistler
Posted: Thursday, August 16, 2012
Looking to make your trip to Whistler one you soon won't forget than why not try skydiving while you're in town. Experience over 45 seconds of adrenaline pumping freefall while jumping out of a plane at 10,500 feet. This is sure to be an experience you'll never forget in one of the most scenic areas in the world.
Getting Started
If this is your first time or you're a repeat visitor Whistler Skydiving is your one stop shop for all your skydiving needs.
If you're new to skydiving then a tandem jump will be required for your first time. This entails you being attached to a certified instructor with the two of you jumping as a team. You will wear your instructor like a backpack so you still get an unobstructed birdseye view when you jump. The tandem jump will run you $279 and includes everything required to make the jump.
If this isn't your first rodeo and you're a licensed jumper you can hop on board any of the pre-booked flights for only $35. This only covers your flight however you are required to have all of your equipment ready with you before the take off.
Flights generally take about 25 minutes to get from the ground to jump height which is around 10'500 feet. From this height you will experience about 45 seconds of freefall before you or your instructor pull the shoot.
Reservations
There is no need to make reservations however they are strongly recommended by the company. You can show up to their offices at the Pemberton Airport but you will be required to wait until they can fit you into their schedule. Bottom line is if you don't want to wait book ahead of time.
If you do make reservations ahead of time they will ask you to show up about an hour and half before you are booked to jump so they can run through the necessary steps to get you ready. Their goal time is to get you in and out of there in about two to three hours from arrival to departure. Plan for about a three hour time lapse.
Directions
Whistler Skydiving may have Whistler in the name but jumps are actually taken out of the beautiful Pemberton Airport. Because Whistler doesn't have an airport Pemberton is the closest place with a functioning runway. The trip from Whistler Village to the Pemberton Airport is about a 35 minute drive so make sure to account for this in your schedule.
