Posted: Thursday, July 26, 2012
The Whistler Summer Concert Series is a series of FREE concerts throughout the summer put on by the Village of Whistler. All of the Summer Concerts will take place at the Whistler Olympic Plaza former home to the medal ceremonies during the 2010 Winter Olympics. This Friday and Saturday night features FREE musical performances by The Mocking Bird, Wil and Chantal Kreviazuk. Listed below is a quick bio on each of the performing artists.
Friday Night | 8:30PM - The Mocking Bird
The Mocking Bird is singer songwriter Bob Kemmis first solo project in seven years. Previously Kemmis has worked as a musical performer for artists such as Jann Arden, Frank Black, John Hiatt, Danny Michel and Badly Drawn Boy. He has also served as a guitar tech for artists Feist, Jann Arden and Bryan Adams. Kemmis new material with The Mocking Bird brings a new rockier, raw sound opposed to his usual mellow acoustic sound. With many of his famous friends contributing their time and efforts to his newest project Kemmis is excited to debut his first solo effort in 7 years. Make sure to join us this Friday night as The Mocking Bird takes the stage to belt out tunes from their new album 'Good Deeds Undone'.
Friday Night | 9:15 - Wil
Alberta born musician Wil is set to take the stage this Friday night at 9:15PM. Wil has stated early inspirations in his career include Johnny Cash, Chet Atkins and Hank Williams. As Wil has progressed as an artist however he says alternative rock and punk also became heavy influences in his musical style. This has left us with a country folk singer with an indie vibe and an incredibly understated and beautiful voice. Many of his songs incorporate experiences from growing up in the country backdrop of his native province. With many of his songs also being used for commercials promoting both Alberta Tourism and the Calgary Stampede. Don't miss your chance to watch Alberta's own Wil this Friday night at Whistler's Olympic Plaza.
Saturday Night | 8:30PM - Chantal Kreviazuk
Chantal Kreviazuk has been a Canadian darling of the music scene since she started making music in 1996. Having sold millions of records and traveled around the world in promotion of her music there is little Kreviazuk hasn't accomplished in her career. Of course many people remember her for her famous cover of 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' featured in the film Armageddon. Armed with an amazing voice and a keyboard Kreviazuk is capable of bringing down the house with her beautiful ballads and series of hits. Join us this Saturday night at 8:15PM as she takes the stage at Whistler's Olympic Plaza.
