Explore Whistler’s Lakes
Posted: Saturday, May 12, 2012
With this beautiful spring weather, this is the perfect time to explore Whistler's hidden gems - the lakes. There are five lakes in Whistler many of which have swimming beaches. Other activities at the lakes include beach volleyball, children's play areas, BBQs and canoe and kayak rentals. The lakes, parks and beaches are all connected to the Valley Trail. All you need is your bike and backpack with drinks and snacks for a great day in Whistler.
Alta Lake
Alta Lake is easily accessible via the Valley Trail and is approximately a 20 minute bike ride from Whistler Village. There are two main parks on the lake - Lakeside Park and Rainbow Park. At Lakeside Park you will find a small beach, picnic tables, BBQs children's play area and canoe/kayak rentals during the summer. Rainbow Park is located on the west side of Whistler. There is a sandy beach, shallow waters, picnic tables, BBQs and beach volleyball. You can also drive to Rainbow Park along the west side road.
Lost Lake
Lost Lake is also easily accessible from Whistler Village and is approximately a 20 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride away. Lost Lake has a sandy beach, BBQs, washrooms, a concession stand, kid's area and picnic tables. This is a great swimming lake once the waters have warmed up in the summer.
Alpha Lake
Alpha Lake Park is located near Creekside, just south of Whistler Village. There is children's playground, volleyball, tennis courts, BBQs and a beach. Alpha Lake Park is dog-friendly.
Green Lake
Green Lake is located north of Whistler Village, close to the Nicklaus North Golf Course. This is probably the coldest lake in Whistler, so not recommended for swimming! It is beautiful lake and worth a visit. You will also be able to watch the float planes land and take off. There are daily flights to and from Vancouver Harbour available with Whistler Air as well as flight seeing tours.
Nita Lake
Nita Lake is Whistler's smallest lake and is located near Creekside. This is a beautiful lake to walk or bike too. Fishing is also available at the lake.
