Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival 2012

The annual TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival is a 10-day, 10-night festival like no other. The festival is held annually in April and is now known as the biggest annual gathering of winter sports, music, arts and culture in North America. This year the 2012 festival is going to be bigger and better than ever. Enjoy some great spring skiing and celebrate at this Whistler festival held from April 13 to 22.
The festival includes some amazing competitions. The World Skiing Invitational features the open Slopestyle, the invitational Big air and the invitational Superpipe. The slopestyle skiing competition is now included the Winter Olympic Games and features jumps, rail and challenges the best skiers in the world. The superpipe competition takes place on April 22 on Blackcomb Mountain. Watch the best of the best compete in this Olympic-sized Superpipe.
Don't miss the Big Air competition
The Big Air competition is on Saturday April 21 and this is one of the most popular events at the festival. Watch pro skiers light up the night, with live music backed by a 15,000-strong crowd! The Big Air competition takes place at the base of Whistler Mountain in the Skiers Plaza.
Free daily concerts
Another highlight of the festival is the free daily outdoor concert series. The stage is located in the Skiers Plaza and there will be free concerts each afternoon from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Confirmed acts for this year's festival include The Dudes, Swollen Members, Dragonette, The Sheepdogs and The British Columbians.
Celebrate the Arts in Whistler
The Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival is also a celebration of the arts in this mountain town. The 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown is hugely popular and tickets to this event are already sold out! Competitors shoot, edit and produce a three to five-minute video in the Whistler area and present their Oscar contender in just under 72 hours. Other art events include fashion shows, photography and art exhibits, film screenings, theatre and a Dogfest!
We cannot forget to mention the famous parties and nightlife during the festival. The party schedule is still being finalized but events include daily live music at the Crystal Lounge and Dubh Linn Gate Pub.
