Upcoming Whistler Events
Posted: Monday, February 13, 2012
It's the town where something is always going on. Whistler is always abuzz with awesome events, parties and festivals. I'm going to give you a rundown of what's not to be missed in February.
You can always check our event calendar to keep up to date with what's coming up. And if you follow us on Twitter we'll keep you up to date. Easy!
Fire & Ice Shows
If you haven't seen one of these yet,
you're missing out! Fire & Ice is held each Sunday
evening at 6:30pm at the base of Whistler / Blackcomb. Come to
skiers plaza with some warm clothes, grab a hot chocolate and be
dazzled by incredible tricks performed by some of Whistler's best
skiers and snowboarders.
These guys literally jump through the proverbial ring of fire for our entertainment, and it's quite a sight. After the show there's a live DJ performing, fire spinners and fireworks! Great fun for the whole family.
Super G Recreational Races
The best thing about these
races is that no racing experience is required and anyone
can join in on the fun!
Super-G is super giant slalom, it combines the speed of downhill with the more precise turns of giant slalom. The course is shorter than downhill but longer than a giant slalom course. Each skier makes one run down a single course and the fastest time determines the winner.
Races happen every Thursday throughout the season. They are open to skiers, telemarkers and snowboarders, participants' races are video-taped and played at the Kokanee awards party where everyone has a chance to win great prizes.
Helmets are mandatory, and the race location and discipline vary each race. Make sure you register prior to event day through Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations and Ski School Sales locations.
The Yeti Snowshoe Series
If you're not so much into skiing or boarding, The Yeti Snowshoe Series provides an exciting outdoor outlet for people of all skill levels, from beginner through to advanced level athletes.
Yeti takes place at the Whistler Olympic Park, and offers a 6 KM sport lap and 12 KM Enduro course over flat undulating cat-track, double track and single track. For more information, visit The Yeti Series Website
