Each summer, the world's top
mountain bike riders descend upon Whistler for the Crankworx
mountain bike festival. Most of the events take place in
the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Athletes will try their hand at
some of the most innovative and challenging courses in the
industry. The festival takes place over 10 days from August 10-19.
As well as ground breaking events there will be live music,
riding demonstrations and competitions and amazing parties.
Fat Tire Crit
Day 1 at Crankworx features the Fat Tire Crit competition. This is a great spectator event which is the nearest thing Whistler has to a Running of the Bulls. The course features an 800 metre loop that will feature multiple corners, a chicane and a straightaway for sprinting on each lap. Every few laps a random number of riders at the back of the pack are "pulled" off the course as they pass the start/finish line. The final 3 to 5 laps will leave 5 riders left on course to decide the podium.
Canadian Open Enduro
Day 1 also features the Canadian Open Enduro event. This race will see a blend of four Whistler trails, combining Downhill and Cross Country riding. The course follow single track in Whistler, with 2 stages set in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, one on Blackcomb and 1 in the Lost Lake trails. This is a competition of endurance, versatility and all-round mastery.
