The Booming 80's. A time where fluro and bad hair cuts reigned supreme. It was also the start of Whistler Blackcomb as we know it today.
Blackcomb ski resort first opened for business on December 6, 1980. When it opened it had 5 chairs, servicing just over 4,000 feet of vertical. The merger between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains didn't eventuate until the late 90's. Up until the merger, a healthy rivalry existed between both mountains as they fought for visitor numbers.
Competition between Whislter, Blackcomb and other ski resorts lent itself to some fantastic marketing campaigns over the years. Take a look at this commercial for Blackcomb mountain created in 1987!
