Adara Insider: Secret Spaces and Hidden Places
Posted: Tuesday, March 04, 2014
With jagged mountains, world-class restaurants, a vibrant community and some of the best snowboarding, skiing and mountain biking facilities in the world, it's no wonder why Whistler is on top of the list for many holiday-makers.
Amongst our most well-known and talked about attractions such as the Peak to Peak Gondala and Whistler/Blackcomb mountains are a number of hidden places and lesser known attractions which can make your alpine adventure that little bit more satisfying.
To help you out, we've picked out some of our favourite secret spots around town.
Secret Place #1: Gone Village Eatery
Just a few steps from the Adara Hotel and nestled in between the Whistler Grocery Store and Armchair book store is a small café called the Gone Village Eatery. Inside this little treasure you'll find comfy chairs, cheerful staff and a range of delightful pastries, soups, sandwiches and fresh coffee. The café is open daily from 6:30am to 9pm and is a great place to grab a coffee before heading up the mountain or simply sitting down and relaxing with a good book.
Secret Place #2: Crystal Lounge
For something a little bit different why not head to the Crystal Lounge for 40c Wings, daily drink specials and a cosy atmosphere. Located in the centre of the village, this bar is a hub for Whistler locals unwinding after a long day. Nightly events such as karaoke and live music always make for a fun night.
Secret Place #3: Crystal Hut
Yes, we've mentioned it before but the Belgian waffles at the Crystal Hut on Blackcomb mountain are a must try. Spectacular views mixed with waffles…it doesn't get much better!
Secret Place #4: Rainbow Park
Rainbow Park is a casual 20 minute bike ride along the valley trail from Whistler Village. The Park was the original site of the historical Rainbow lodge and offers picnic tables, washrooms and large open areas for play. Rainbow Park is reflective of many other recreational areas scattered around Alta, Alpha and Lost Lakes. All of the lakes in the area are connected by the valley trail and weather permitting, hiring a bike to explore these areas is a terrific idea. During winter, ice-skating on the lakes is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon and create some magical memories.
Secret Place #5: Whistler Brewing Company
For a truly British Columbian experience, head down to Function Junction via bus or taxi for a tour of the Whistler Brewing Company. Established in 1989, the company is 100% BC owned and its' beer 100% BC brewed. The tour includes a walk-through of the craft brewing facility as well as beer tastings.
Secret Place #6: Scandinave Spa
Perhaps not so secret anymore due to its' growing reputation is the Scandinave Spa. The Spa offers 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor facilities engulfed in a cedar forest on the edge of Lost Lake. Soak in the Eucalyptus steam bath, experience the wood burning Finnish sauna and then refresh yourself underneath the thermal waterfall. 100% relaxing and unlike any other Whistler spa experience, a trip to the Scandinave during your stay at the Adara is well worth it.
No matter what kind of experience you are after when you come to Whistler, rest assured there is something here for everyone. Part of the beauty of this place is that there are unique people and places hiding around every corner. Sometimes you may just have to look a little bit deeper to find them all!!
