Whistler Readers and Writers Festival

Whistler offers the perfect backdrop for the 10th annual Whistler Readers and Writers Festival. This is a weekend that celebrates everything about the art and culture of the literary world. Whether you are an experienced writer or just have a passion for reading books, you will find this festival full or great workshops and events.
The festival takes place from October 14th-16th at various venues throughout Whistler Village.
You will have the opportunity to meet over 20 guest authors who will host 10 workshop sessions, 6 reading events, 3 panel discussions, a breakfast tribute to icons of writing, and a spoken word performance entitled Creative 5 Eclectic.
The Whistler Readers and Writers Festival is hosted by the Vicious Circle. This is a Whistler Writers Group which, was founded in 2001 to provide a forum for local writers to develop their craft and connect with like-minded literati. Sarah Selecky will be The Vicious Circle's Writer in Residence for 2011 and will be one of the presenting authors at the 2011 Readers and Writers Festival. Sarah Selecky is a Canadian writer, whose debut short story collection This Cake is for the Party was a shortlisted nominee for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and long listed for the Frank O'Connor Short Story Award in 2010.
Other highlights of the Whistler Readers and Writers Festival include The Opening Gala the Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Center on Friday evening. Guest authors include Madeline Sonik, Miriam Toews, Antanas Sileika, John Glenday, Angie Abdou, Randy Boyagoda, and Sarah Selecky in conversation with local writer Stephen Vogler. Each author will read and discuss their latest work.
On Sunday morning enjoy the Lit Grit Tribute Breakfast with Wayne Johnston, Miriam Toews and Sarah Selecky. Come join the festival's first ever guest author, Andreas Schroeder break bread and interview literary icons, Miriam Toews and Wayne Johnston and the 2011 writer in residence Sarah Selecky.
This is going to be a fun weekend and there will be an event of workshop for everyone to enjoy.
