Hurray for springtime when the days get longer, summer and winter sports intersect and the patio sessions go off the hook! Here at Adara we love springtime in Whistler. Everyone has an extra bounce in their step, the valley begins to awaken after a dormant winter, and the outdoor activity choice is endless. So what are our favourite things about springtime in Whistler? Here are some of the spring highlights…
Whistler is famous for its epic après sessions which involve resting those tired legs with friends, on a patio, with some nachos and the great Canadian Caesar (not sure what that is, let us tell you). There really is no better way to end a day on the mountain then a patio session with friends, extra awesome if the sun decides to make an appearance. If you’re in Whistler this spring, make sure to check out one of the famous après bars in Whistler Village such as the Longhorn Saloon, Dusty’s Bar & BBQ, the GLC and Merlins.
Bike or Board, you choose.
Spring is the only season where you can bike and board (and sometimes both in one day). Although the Whistler Bike Park doesn’t open until May, the trails in the Valley are coming into their prime with Squamish down the highway in full single-track swing. Why not hit the slopes in the morning and end the day with a ride around the Valley trail? Springtime is the season where activity choices are endless.
One of the best kept secrets in Whistler is the blow out dining specials that happen during late Spring. This is generally ‘down-time’ for tourists so local restaurants offer amazing menu deals which get as good as three course lobster feasts for under $50. If you’re in Whistler during spring make sure to get a copy of the Pique Newsmagazine for all of the latest dining specials.
Snowfall and sunshine
Did you know Whistler traditionally gets some of its best snowfall in Spring? March typically has some of the highest precipitation levels of the year meaning substantial snowfall at higher elevations. Couple this with sunny bluebird days that become more frequent as spring comes into full swing and we have the perfect conditions for an ultimate day on the mountain.
The biggest festival on the winter calendar, The World Ski and Snowboard Festival, happens in Spring. This year marks the 20th year of the Festival and highlights include the FIDO Outdoor Concert Series, State of ART event, Olympus 72-hour Filmmaker Showdown and Gibbons Style Sessions. This 10-day event has a full line up of music, arts, and cultural events for the entire family. If you haven’t already booked accommodation for the festival make sure to check out our rates.
