Scram, hippies!
Upscale resorts? Spas? Golf? There's a whole new mindset on the Left Coast

OK, so Whistler is not part of the Gulf Islands and has long been gentrified,
but the Adara Hotel warrants mention because, from its high concept right
down to the Frette robes in the closet, it practically screams "Scram,
hippies!" It's pitched as Whistler's first boutique art hotel, and I
have no doubt it's where Justin and Cameron will choose to bed down when
in town. A sister property to Vancouver's Opus Hotel, the Adara is one part
Sex and the City, one part mountaineer mama.
Of the 41 rooms, the one-bedroom suites have downy beds tucked in snug loft hubs. A cheeky woodlands theme is evident in the resin antlers and crosscut-log motifs. (It works.) Bathroom toiletries are the Fresh brand (pomegranate conditioner, brown-sugar body bars).
There's no onsite restaurant yet, so catering is courtesy of the Barefoot Bistro just across the lane, where head-sized muffins, fruit and juice arrive at your door just before you hit the slopes or take in the huge variety of other outdoor activities such as bungee jumping over the rushing Cheakamus River, ziptrekking or tubing on Whistler/Blackcomb's new Coca-Cola Tube Park.
