Today is International Women’s Day. This day has emerged as such in the early 1900’s from the movements for women’s rights. In recent years, it has grown into much more than just a day to celebrate and memorialize all that women have done throughout history. It has become a powerful message to all that equality will be achieved. In celebration of International Women’s Day, we at the Adara, wanted to share this piece of writing to show our support of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all around the world.
i am a woman.

I am a woman. and I am grateful with my strong mind and my loud voice. I am to be respected with my emotion-filled tears and my rose-colored vulva. today you are trying to keep me small, but you don’t realise that I am bigger than my body. I am more fierce than softness and subordination. don’t reduce me to my stereotype.
I am a woman. I am mystic and strong. my worth does not depend on the children at my feet or the purity of my sexual experience. I give life and steal hearts, I get scarred and I continue fighting. tomorrow you will be faced with an army of lustful liberators, of angry amazons, of fearless feminists. we will fight with logic, overdue justice and human rights. and you will no longer be able to cut us out of your history books and power positions.
I am a woman. and I declare war on inequality, misogyny and repression.
what are you fighting for?
